Matchmaker Interview with Jacqui Homer from RSVP Dating Agency
Jacqui Homer is a Senior Matchmaker and Platinum Dating PA at RSVP Dating Agency and Singles Club
Why did you decide to become a matchmaker?
Making people happy of course! I have always been a bit of a matchmaker with friends and have helped bring couples together before joining RSVP, so I really love what I do.
What makes you different to other companies/matchmakers?
RSVP Introductions Ltd is well established – matchmaking for nearly 30 years – that’s a lot of success stories and experience! We also offer singles events to our clients to enable them to meet other single members in an informal setting and potentially meet that special someone – we’ve had many couples meet at events who would not have been matched with each other as they weren’t what they thought they were looking for, but they are really happy together!
What do you like most (and least) about being a matchmaker?
Most – Helping people to push their dating comfort zone
Least – Hearing people’s bad internet dating stories
Do you think the way matchmakers are viewed in the UK is changing?
Yes! I think many people are looking for a more personalised, safer and traditional approach to dating now – there are many online dating apps and websites out there, but profile scrolling can be time consuming, sometimes demoralising and safety can be a worry for many. Here at RSVP, like many other agencies, we take pride in offering advice and guidance throughout a client’s membership, we also meet everyone before they join, see identification and offer a dating safely handbook to introductions members for a safer approach to dating.
Do you have any funny or interesting dating stories?
Interestingly yes, we hosted a singles event and we got everybody to sing happy birthday to a member attending but it turned out it wasn’t his birthday!!
What’s the best advice you would give to someone looking for a partner?
Don’t be hasty! What you think you want isn’t necessarily the case or what you need. Let the experts help you.
What are the most common mistakes people make when dating?
Talking about previous relationships on initial phone calls and first dates!
What your greatest success story?
An engagement for one of my Platinum clients! They are planning their wedding and things are going so well that her partner decided to leave a job he hated, relocated to be with her and he now has a job he loves, and they are creating a new future together. I love receiving photos and updates from clients I’ve brought together.
What trends and changes do you see happening over the next few years in the dating world? Especially after the pandemic.
Throughout the pandemic people have been taking life by the horns and I believe that people will not put off their dating journeys – life too short after all.
Have you met your own life partner? If so, how did you know they were the one?
We are chalk and cheese, but we bring out the best in each other. I knew he was the one when I realised how much I feel at home when I am with him.
Do you believe in soulmates?
Yes of course! You must invest your time and find the right people to help you find them – whether it’s your friends, an agency like ours or another way – your soulmate is out there somewhere!
What qualities do you think make for a great partner?
I believe that a great quality for a partner is to have someone who listens to you and appreciates the small things you do for them.
What is the best way for a man to approach a woman? Is it OK for a woman to approach a man?
Be yourself and seize the opportunity! Also, we live in 2021, so of course a lady can approach a man. Just make sure it is safe and in a public place.
What is the secret of a long and happy relationship?
Without a doubt – COMPROMISE!
What’s your best dating tip?
Don’t rush in – take it easy even if it is going well.
